Little refinements, every day:
When you’re at the beach, be at the beach. Sand, a book, salty hair. Follow it with a beer.
Don’t waste hours of your life obsessing about “when will the next acting gig arrive?” Edit your own work and get it out into the world as soon as possible. Make it urgent.
Write letters – handwritten. I dropped one off in the mailbox today – to my friend on the other side of the country. It smells like lavender because I slipped a little sachet in there.
Play guitar without judgment (terrible at this).
Breathe deeper while doing the dishes. Burn incense while doing morning pages.
Get together more often with good folks. Make the effort, show up, be a better listener.
Do the interview you’re afraid of doing. Running away is an old habit. Change the instinct.
Make felafel for dinner (tonight!).
Go out to see live theatre, wear lipstick!
Read Thomas Merton’s The Seven Story Mountain because something about that book glows.
Stay with the script. Spend hours with it, even if they seem unproductive. There is something magical in these pages, but it can’t be drawn out over night.
This year – 2014 – be here.
